M4: Demonstrate the exported media product meets the client brief
The client brief that we received had asked us to come up with an idea for a North London magazine based on a specific music Genre that is popular within the area. We decided to bring a new and upcoming genre into light, Grime. This most definitely complied with the clients brief which asked for a North London based genre because Grime has originated in the UK and is now very popular in North London. We also made all aspects of the magazine suit the target audience that the clients brief had planned out for us which was people between the ages of 15-20. To make our product more suitable for that age we did things such as make the magazine available through our website which our audience can gain access to on their mobile phones. We also made sure that the magazine is affordable for these younger people who may not have a proper income. We made sure that the magazine was put into JPEG format that way it opens up correctly on any platform or device.
The front cover that we have created has managed to meet the client brief, in several ways. First of all the front cover links back to the North London music genre that we had decided to make the magazine about which is Grime. The magazine also includes an image of a very popular London venue. The front cover also meets the client brief as it suits the target audience that we had decided to make this suitable for which was 15-20 year old males. This was done by including the social media emoji's at the bottom right corner in order to let our young audience know that they can also access our products via their phones and social media which would link them to our website.
There where several post production tools that i put to use through photoshop in order to make the best final product i could and to have it meet the client brief by adding elements that relate to the genre spoken about in the magazine.
The first way that i used a photoshop tool in order to create meaning in my front cover is through the masthead. As you can see i used a specific font that made the masthead look like police tape, this gives meaning as it relates back to one of the many topics which are spoken about in grime. This once again helps me meet the client brief as grime is a North London music genre. I created the masthead by picking a special font out which is only available through photoshop. To create this i used the Horizontal type tool in order to create the text and then i used the font bar to pick out the font that i wanted.
Next i decided to add even more detail into the masthead of the front cover to make it relate to the grime theme even more. With the use of the magic wand tool and the move tool i managed to edit bullet holes into the background of the masthead. This added meaning to the masthead as gun violence is another topic that is often spoken about within the grime genre. I used the magic wand tool in order to erase the background of the image with the bullet holes and then i used the move tool to drag the bullet holes into the right place.
The colours i decided to use within the front cover created meaning because they are colours that represented the mood and tune that you would usually see in grime. The choice of colours such as the black font of the body text or the colour of the masthead helped me set that mood. I was given the option of these colours by using the colour picker.
- Front cover
- Double page spread
As you can see i also put photoshop tools to use in my double page spread in order to create meaning and to meet the clients brief in the best way possible. Photoshop helped me create a feeling that represents the mood in grime music, and also helped me add in little details that link back to the grime genre and North London which helps me meet the clients brief.
I mainly used dark coloured text to fit in with the picture due to the magazine being a grime magazine so i want to portray a more scary and not welcoming vibe rather than a happy mood. Due to the use of dark coloured text the background colours that i used had to be slightly brighter, therefore i decided to go with grey and white. I used grey as it was the nearest colour i could get to something dark and i used white because its plane and does not portray brightness of darkness.
I added in a few details that helped me link the double page spread to the grime genre or to North London which was requested by the client brief. To link the double page spread back to North London i created a compass using photoshop that only should the N for North in order to show that this magazine is about North London. To do this i used to magic wand tool in order to erase the rest of the letters and then i used the move tool in order to drag the compass into the right position.
Lastly another detail that i added to the double page spread in order to link it to the grime genre is the use of the same font that i used in the masthead, but only on the page numbers in the corner of the pages. This added a little bit of meaning to the page numbers. I added this detail by adding the page number with the Horizontal text tool and then i changed the font of the numbers using the font tab.
